Anchoring and Reporting -- $475
Saturdays, January 11 - February 15
12 - 3pm (9 hours studio time, 9 hours production/lab time)
LIMITED TO 12 STUDENTS

An introduction to on-air news anchoring and reporting. You will learn, to develop story ideas, edit, perform on camera at a professional level and produce your own newscasts. After a brief introduction, you will develop a news piece, shoot on location near our studio and present your work on air behind the anchor desk. Students will receive a professional reel of their work. Completed works will also air on Manhattan Neighborhood Network channel 34 as part of Manhattan Magazine.


Television Production -- $475
Monday and Wednesdays, January 6 - 22
6-9pm (13 hours class and production time, 5 hours of lab time)
LIMITED TO 12 STUDENTS

Learn in-studio and on-location production: one, two and three camera shooting, directing, switching, lighting and audio techniques. Learn nonlinear editing with Final Cut Pro, broadcast graphics production and outputting to multiple formats. Produce a video production from beginning to end: write, direct and edit individual and team projects while developing confidence with production equipment and professional practices.


Filmmaking Workshop (in Digital Video) -- $475
Monday and Wednesdays, January 27 - February 12
6-9pm (13 hours class and production time, 5 hours of lab time)
LIMITED TO 12 STUDENTS

Learn everything needed to make your own movie including: scriptwriting, budgeting, development, producing, directing, lighting and audio for locations. Learn to perform digital camera techniques and edit professionally finished product. Students will create sharp 5-minute trailer ideal for fundraising.


Digital Journalist -- $350*
Sat and Sun, February 22 & 23
10am – 4pm (12 hours class and production time)

The Digital Journalist is a hands-on experience for beginners to get you shooting and editing in two
days. You will learn Camera and Audio Basics as well as Non-linear Editing. After a brief introduction, you
will develop a news piece and shoot on location near our studio. After an easy introduction to Final
Cut Pro, you will put all the pieces together to tell a news story in a 1 minute and 30 second (1:30)
package.
Students shoot on mini-DV and edit on Final Cut Pro.
Every student will receive a mini-DV tape of their completed work and a VHS copy.


Reporter’s Package -- $725* plus $50 lab fee
Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays for 2 weeks
(TBA in January 2003)
Thurs 6pm – 9pm; Sat, Sun 10am – 4pm
(33 hours class and production time, 7 hours lab time)

COURSE LIMITED TO 8 STUDENTS

A “boot camp” approach for those who want to learn professional news reporting. You will learn the same story development and production techniques used at most major news organizations including: Camera and Sound operation, News-Format Story telling, Interviewing, On-Camera techniques and Editing. You will produce and report your own news stories, grabbing crystal clear interviews and natural sound, doing man-on-the-street interviews and getting the sound bites you need, pre-visualizing and shooting B-roll to support your angle, addressing the camera professionally and with confidence and cutting your piece in Final Cut Pro. Your work will be compiled into a professional reel (the on-camera resume crucial for those looking to become reporters). Completed works will also air on Manhattan Neighborhood Network channel 34 as part of Manhattan Magazine.
Students shoot on mini-DV and edit on Final Cut Pro.
Every student will receive a mini-DV reel of their completed work and a VHS copy.

COURSE LIMITED TO 8 STUDENTS

An introduction to on-air news and talk show presentation. You will learn to write clear and lively copy for broadcast, practice reading from the teleprompter, take stage cues and maintain composure under hot studio lights. You will also get individualized feedback on voice, enunciation, posture, poise and contact with the camera. You will learn to work on-air with confidence, to define your style and to find the best colors, clothing, hairstyle and makeup for on-camera presentation. Students will receive a professional reel of their work, necessary for those seeking employment on-air. Completed works will also air on Manhattan Neighborhood Network channel 34 as part of Manhattan Magazine.
Students receive a mini-DV reel of their completed work and a VHS copy.

*Take all 3 workshops in one session for $1250. Courses include 1-year free membership to Community Film Workshop Council. Membership entitles participants to discounts on CFWC seminars, low-cost access to editing equipment and facilities, invitations to special events and mentorship opportunities.


Use your Camcorder Like a Pro -- $75 (includes refreshments)
2 Saturdays, January 2003 - dates TBA
12 - 4pm (8 hours of hands-on production time)

Create sharp, steady, professional-looking pictures. In one 6-hour class, learn video basics, expert camera techniques and shot-making used by professional camera persons. Week Two enables evaluation of (and recommendations for) work done during the intervening week to see just how much you've really picked and where you need to go from there. Lots of hands-on exercises and on-the-spot critiques.


Basics of Television Production -- $45 (includes refreshments)
1 Saturday, January 2003 - date TBA
10 - 4 pm (6 hours of class time)

One day survey of the broadcast television industry. Lecture includes the Technology of Television Production and overviews of Studio Production, Lighting, Sound, Camera Operation, Directing and On-Air Presentation. Students hear all about careers in-front-of and behind the camera, learning the requirements to prepare for those roles and may choose to participate in the production of a 1/2 hour television program being produced in-studio.


Instructors
Led by drumTV founder Richard Martin, our instructors are adjunct staff members of NYU and The New School departments of broadcasting and television. They offer a wealth of experience with production credits that include: ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX news, the BBC and Entertainment Tonight. They have taught journalists, anchors and television presenters who have appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX network affiliates, NY1 and the Food Network among others.

Located on Harlem’s historic 125th Street, drumTV and the CFWC offer hands-on experience and training for individuals seeking employment in the broadcast field at the most affordable rates in New York City. drumTV’s small, class sizes allow students to have one-on-one instruction time with experienced instructors and to immediately use professional equipment and facilities. Students also leave with professional quality samples of their work, which they will need to secure jobs in the industry as anchors, reporters or on-air presenters.


All courses (except Basics of Television and Using Camcorder Like a Pro) include 1-year free membership to Community Film Workshop Council. Membership entitles participants to 10% discount
on future CFWC seminars, access to editing equipment and facilities, invitations to special events, mentorship and employment opportunities.
